End of an EON

I was genuinely shocked at the news:

Fly safe EON, old chum. Over eight years you did some good stuff and helped a few people to their dream jobs (and me to a dream wife), but it’s time to settle into the retirement village for old game magazines and tell anyone who’ll listen how EVE used to be. I’ll pop by from time to time to see how you’re coping. – Richie Shoemaker

I get it. It’s a digital age and a lot of large publications have been struggling, let alone the little magazine that could. I understand that EON is no longer considered commercially viable. It still sucks. Continue reading

Supplementation

There are some topics that everyone has a strong opinion on, whether it’s an informed opinion or not. Religion, politics, parenting, relationships – most of us are pretty set in our ways. That’s probably why we’re told to never discuss those topics in public settings if we wish to keep our friends.

Supplements can be one of those hot topics. Anyone who has even touched a supplement suddenly believes they know everything there is to know about nutritional health in the modern universe. I’ve met many fitness trainers, certified professionals, that don’t even understand supplementation properly, yet think they do.

Supplements, whether used correctly or incorrectly, can be expensive and dangerous. Always respect your body.

Fandom Fail

fandomStill sure you want to be Roc? The Fandom contest is over. Time for an ego check. It went poorly for many reasons I’ll explain and own up to now. Integrity isn’t just about claiming your victories, but also acknowledging your failures.

Before I get into it I do want to thank everyone that did help me get this contest rolling, did show an interest, did enter or help promote it. Thank you for always believing. I do my best to serve our community and I am appreciative that you see that and continue to support my efforts.

You are what keeps me going when I stumble.

Pop Roc

Colonel Wieler,

I’m a huge fan of your music, especially the production quality and layers in your soundtracks. One Night of Roc was alright but I found the fake guitars a little fake (not that I could do better). I’ve recently wondered if you’ve ever tried other genres like dubstep, minimal tech/house, country, rap, or pop music? Soundtracks are great but it would be nice to hear what else you can do.

Firstly, I see what you did there with your signature. Continue reading

BB 45: Propaganda

This edition of the Blog Banter is forged from suggestions from #tweetfleet members @KaedaMaxwell, @RocWieler and @TigerlilyFenix.

In a socially-driven game environment such as EVE Online’s, everyone has an agenda. CCP promotes its products and has an army of volunteers to do the same; corporations and alliances deliver entertaining recruitment drives, CSM election candidates solicit for voter favour, bloggers and podcasters opine to their audiences.

In this intricate web of communication, influence and control; what part does propaganda play in your game?

Banter on. Continue reading

Fooling our Brains

I read your story on the internet, and then started following your blog during your body beast routine. I find you to be an inspiration. I do not game, nor do I really know what eve online is. I am thankful to have found your blog. I am trying to start a program. About a year ago I started P90X, and lasted for 34 days. Some background on me. I have four kids, work full time and I am a full time student. I am married. We also have two dogs and three cats. Busy is an understatement. I recently purchased Tony Horton’s 10 minute trainer in the hopes of starting this program. I need to do something, as I have gained 50 lbs and currently am not happy with that. I have started eating properly this week and plan on continuing that. I was really just hoping for you to give me tips on how to start something when I feel like I barely have time to catch my breath. Thank you for sharing your story.

– Amber

Darlin, thank you for stepping up and sharing your story. It’s not always easy to ask for help, or to make one’s self accountable; putting ourselves out there can be very scary. Continue reading

Going to try something new every  Monday here at Roc’s Ramblings, and yes, I’m aware it’s Tuesday. Had a rough day. I’m going to use the name Fit Fleet. It’s not mine but it fits. Every Monday we’ll discuss some aspect of nutrition, exercise, motivation, whatever you want. You can either hit me up in the comments here with ideas or questions, or @rocwieler on Twitter, or roc@rocwieler.com. Continue reading
