I remember the CSM 8 elections like it was yesterday. There was the usual drama and posturing, candidates backstabbing each other while jockeying for better position in the polls, none of us aware of the greater threat heading towards New Eden. Our collective arrogance and lack of foresight still makes me shake my head. I’m getting ahead of myself again.
The people had endorsed me, and I was on the final election ballot. I had been preaching the line of “Prosper or Perish by the People” and decided to put my money where my mouth was, accessing a MEME GENERATING GalNet portal where anyone could create their own slogan for my CSM 8 campaign.
I bet you were expecting something arrogant, egotistical and self-aggrandizing. My nefarious ploy worked! Truth be told, this post should be titled “Why someone wants to be you” and is meant as a slap of reality to help us all get a grip on our own perspectives. I read the report once more before submitting it on my screen. The Battle for Caldari Prime, as it had come to be known, was a historic event. The media outlets continued to play footage from it 24/7. There was no escaping it. If you lived in New Eden, you knew what had transpired that day, or at least the sensationalized version the media was known for. The ground battles were still underway but not being as grandiose as the sight of thousands of capsuleer ships in orbit, the media had already started interviews with various political figures from both sides, as well as celebrity insights and views from the common citizen of the State and the Federation. These were the stories that would continue to play on until the next big newsworthy item came along. Mysteriously, the stories of the capsuleers and dusters were absent from the media.
