OOC: Eve is dying

We all hear this phrase thrown around the forums, and we usually laugh. Yet I have to stop and wonder, is there any truth to it lately?

I like to consider myself a good writer, one that can put forward his ideas in a succinct and gripping manner. Even if this is true, I also know when to defer to greater writers than myself, and Seleene recently posted something that simply captures it all in a way better than I could express it. TLF LOGISTIC SUPPORT

It had made sense when I retired from the militia to just continue leasing the hangar I had made use of during my time of service. It was one of the perks offered when honourably discharged, and it was a lot easier than moving my stuff.

The only problem I hadn’t forseen was that I would no longer have use of the militia support staff… Continue reading

Interview: Starfleet Comms

What a night! Starfleet Comms and Voices from the Void in one fun filled evening! It’s my own fault of course; I had double booked. Thankfully, both show hosts were incredibly gracious and we ended up doing back to back interviews.

Gavin Phoenix has been a fan, and a friend, for a long while. He’s been nothing but supportive of everything I do, and even has encouraged my wife on her blog over at www.farahtheiqbal.com (yeah, she doesn’t post often, I know). Continue reading

Roc Wieler – Day 0

Harlon, Daemeon, and more to follow I’m sure. What do they have in common? Public accountability. Each has looked at where they are and not been satisfied. Each has begun the journey of self improvement. Each has stepped forward and said “Roc, I’m going to be held accountable for myself.” Each has shown commitment, discipline, dedication and balls of steel.

I mentioned in the recent Voices from the Void podcast interview that something I have personally struggled with is showing my own beginnings, showing my Day 0 picture. It’s vanity, pure and simple. Will the ladies be disappointed if they see the real me? Will the men criticize, laugh, insult?

Roc Wieler is a hard image to live up to.

So this morning I manned up. This morning I took pictures of where I am today as compared to where I was then. Even though I am my own harshest critique; even though I still have much further to go in my own journey of self-improvement, I have to walk the walk.

Consider this my public accountability. Continue reading

Daemeon Fyral – Day 0

One of the toughest things for any of us is to hold ourselves accountable to others. There’s a whole “team shame” mentality about it because we’re honestly used to failing ourselves, and we’ve developed strong mechanisms for rationalization, but letting down others isn’t something any of us should be comfortable with.

I put out a Day 0 post for Harlon Mathuin not too long ago. Harlon is continuing to work strong, and I’m looking forward to his three month update. Someone else inspired by Harlon’s public accountability is Daemeon, who was also doing his due diligence in the TRX 21 day challenge I posted a while back. Continue reading

Interview: Voices from the Void

I’ve always enjoyed interviews. Not just for the publicity, nor for the arrogance that I get to be the center of attention once again for the duration of the podcast, but simply because I enjoy intelligent banter.

Voices from the Void provided that in abundance. They aren’t like one of those morning shows I’ve done where my entire guest appearance is a ten minute segment on the best way to cook eggs in zero gravity, but rather a genuine interest in me as a person, a personality, an icon, and a target for Hallan Turrek’s quick wit. Continue reading

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

DAY 2

Hmmm, only one entry/exit within the last 24 hours, I thought to myself. That told me one of two things. Either someone within the alliance had found the wormhole, and had come to scout it out to give our pilots a better understanding of what type of force would be needed to eliminate the present Sleeper threat (*EDITOR’S NOTE WIDE AWAKE). Or someone with less than pleasant intentions had scanned down this system in the hopes of finding and engaging me. Continue reading

Fandom

Self-absorbed, narcissistic, egomaniacal, cocky, arrogant, blowhard. Those are some of the nicer things I’ve been called on this blog by my detractors. It puzzles me honestly in some ways. I mean, if you really aren’t a fan of someone, why make the effort to come to their website, experience what they have to offer, then criticize in a non-productive way? It honestly is counterintuitive to me that people do this. If there is some form of media out there that I do not enjoy, I don’t go out of my way to experience it, only to comment on how much I don’t like it. Continue reading
