It often amazed me how malnourished most pod pilots looked. Relying on their tube fed protein goop for sustenance, many of us had alienated ourselves from our own humanity, from the enjoyments that came from the simpler things in life. Things like a good stew. Continue reading

Campaign Trail: Shady Dealings
Sometimes I felt like I was doing it right. That’s a great feeling that I held onto until the next crappy thing came along. Shakor’s words still echoed in my mind about my “non-platform”, about not playing the political game and pandering to the masses on a given topic. Apparently, providing a dedicated avenue of communication to the people wasn’t sexy and attractive, and Shakor’s bet, as well as many others, was against me securing a seat on the Council of Stellar Management. Continue reading
Roc’s Rule #475
Passion, skill and experience do not guarantee victory.
Campaign Trail: Crossing Zebras
There is often a misconception regarding politics – that it is a game played by soft, old men that can no longer play war. That is a naive and foolish viewpoint. Continue reading
Campaign Trail: We the People
Recently I put out the question via Twitter: Why should your voice matter to the CSM? Here are some of the replies that quickly came forward.
@ROW_Skyreth They’re meant to speak for we players. No point in them otherwise.
@TheDranchsause Because the CSM is there to give a face to the voice of those who, for whatever reason, aren’t CSM.
@AzamiNevinyrall Because they relay my concerns and suggestions to CCP …
Campaign Trail: Waiting on Shakor
I had been waiting in his office for nearly twenty minutes. It was a classic tactic when establishing dominance, meant to remind the one waiting that they were not in power, and therefore, inferior in position. It gave an immediate psychological advantage to the one enforcing the waiting in most scenarios. For me, it was simply time to evaluate my opponent, to garner as much knowledge as I could from my surroundings, to reveal insights into the man, possible weaknesses. Of course with Maleatu Shakor, I never knew if he was truly friend or enemy. Continue reading
Roc’s Rule #474
What you allow is what will continue.
Ho Cakes
“You hungry, handsome?” she said to me the morning after as my bleary eyes tried to focus.
“Sure thing. Hoe cakes.” I replied, still trying to get my mouth to enunciate properly.
“What did you just say?” she quipped back, a hint of anger in her voice.
I rubbed my eyes, sitting up in my narrow bed. That had been a fun night’s adventure. “I said yeah, I’m hungry. Please make some hoe cakes.”
“Oh.” she answered, all cheery again.
Sometimes it was good to play all innocent. Continue reading
Blog Banter 44: Is there anybody out there?
The local chat channel provides EVE players with an instant source of intel of who is in the system. With a quick glance you can tell who is in system and what your standings are to them. War targets, hated enemies, friends and corp mates all stand out clearly. Is this right? Should we have access to this intel for free with no work or effort? Should the Local chat channel even exist? Should normal space be more like wormhole space where the Local channel appears empty until someone speaks? Continue reading
Grab Life by the Bull
As an immortal, I like to think I make wise decisions. I’ve been around this life a long while now and experience can be a wonderful teacher. Of course, as a younger man, I made many foolish mistakes … Continue reading
