Last Blog Banter we talked about heroes in EVE Online. The followup to that topic has been provided by Wilhelm aka The Ancient Gaming Noob:
“Write about somebody who is “space famous” and why you hate/admire them, somebody who isn’t space famous but you think should be or will be, or discuss space fame in general, what it means, and how people end up so famous.”
I’d like to add another take on the subject, is there a cost of being famous in EVE and if so, is it worth the price?
Thank you for the positive feedback on the video. Yes, there is a lot of homo-eroticism. This video was made primarily for the female fans and also, as a 3D artist, to show off the body sculpting and texturing done. After dozens of hours staring at unwrapped UV maps you kind of grow numb to looking at this stuff.
Band of Brothers, as told by the Mittani. No bias there. I thought to myself. Just the same, reading the publicly released briefing of the incidents leading up to the betrayal and eventual downfall of Band of Brothers made for a good read.
True Stories they had called it. Regardless of how much was true it reminded me of a simple truth I did know – we all had a story to tell. I looked at the name of the writer who wrote the report. Maybe it was time to tell mine.

Today’s topic comes Diaries of a Space Noob blog and other sources:
Do classic heroes exist in EVE? Is such heroism even possible in EVE? How would you go about being one without opening yourself wide open to scams? Is the nature of the game so dark that heroes can’t exist? How do you deal with that irony? What effect does this have on us and the psyche of new players coming in from other MMOs? Is it something special that we don’t have classic heroes, or should we? Are our non-classic heroes more genuine?
Heroes, I scoffed at the word in my thoughts.
It’s a funny thing, I thought to myself, reflecting on the last few months of my life. I’ve never really thought much about drones; auto-cannons are what win the day. I had to admit that somewhere within a tinkerer laughed at my self-delusion. Continue reading
