I’ve seen all types at the gym: the knuckle dragging neanderthals with bad form lifting heavy weights, making sure to slam them hard on the floor so people notice what idiots they are in every way; the tarts that do their hair, wearing makeup and tight little gym clothes so that the gorillas will notice them; the half-assed “I’m at the gym” fatties, eating their donuts while on the treadmill. Yeah, I’ve seen it all at the gym.
Me? I don’t really care what others think of me when I workout. I’m there for one purpose, one mission, and nothing else exists except my routine. I grunt. I sweat. I scream occasionally. I’ve even cried and puked. Don’t like it, don’t watch me. I’m there to push myself beyond my limitations, to sculpt my physique into what I want it to be.
I know it’s a very long process. I know it will take longer than a few weeks, or even months. It’s a consistent lifestyle; something that involves patience and willpower. It’s my zen, so to speak.
Today, I decided to try something different; a no weights workout for strength and fat burning. I always enjoy trying new workouts, keeps the muscles guessing.
Here’s the workout. I seriously encourage you to try it.
Circuit 1: (no rest inbetween exercises)
- 10 bulgarian split squat (that’s 10 per leg)
- 12 pushups
- 12 hip raises
- 12 pushups
- 12 hip raises
- 30 second side plank (30 seconds per side)
- 10 floor y raise (video shows on a ball. Do on floor instead)
- 10 floor t raise (video shows not on floor. Do on floor, palms facing forward)
- 10 floor i raise (video shows hot chicks because I couldn’t help myself. Same as t raise, except directly over your head, palms facing inwards)
- 30 second side plank (30 seconds per side)
- 10 floor y raise
- 10 floor t raise
- 10 floor i raise
That’s ONE circuit. Do three circuits, with 1 minute rest between circuits.
Don’t count out the fatties. I was one of them at one time and used the gym to convert that fat to muscle.
But that does sound pretty rough. The Bulgarian Split Squat may have to be given a shot in my current workout routine.
I’m still a fattie. I was counting out the half-assed fatties who don’t really understand why they’re at the gym spending money on a membership in the first place.
First step towards change is mental. Once that is overcome, the rest will follow.
Agreed. It’s a change of lifestyle, not an hour at the gym everyday.
That is a hell of a workout, I think it would break me! Sadly thanks to two bad knee’s I have to stick with walking or swimming, short of doing the upper body and trunk workouts.
Also as a tall bastard I have to say push ups are the most unfair form of workout between short people and tall people! =)
I am impressed by your workout and commitment!
Well put! The mentality makes the difference.
I had similar feelings this week in the gym, when I saw those three girls: Two talking nonstop to the third while she is doing her chores. In the end all three trained maybe 25min each in the 90mininutes they where in the gym. In my book that is a big waste of time. Healthwise they probably would have been better off just walking together to the gym and back by foot…
On another note: Anyone of you ever wondered why Eve hi-sec mining and treadmill running feel so similar?
Thanks to all these cookery and fitness posts I can’t help but imagin the good colonel floating aound in his pod cooking a spanish omlet with one arm, lifting weights with the other. All the while engaged in Vicious dogfight with some ammar “red baron”
If I may ask, how are you supposed to do the Y, T and I on the floor? It looks like you need something to raise you up.
Yeah, bad videos. I had difficulty finding appropriate ones.
Lay on your stomach.
Use your shoulders to lift your arms off of the ground.
It is a very controlled motion of about 30 degrees.
For T and Y, palms face down.
For I, palms face inwards towards each other.
If still unclear, I’ll get someone to take a short video of me at the gym for you.
Actually, that’s what I was thinking it was. Just wanted to make sure that it was being done the way you intended. And thank you for this routine. I’m going to try and accomplish it each morning.
