[OOC] A quick ask

Working away on some things:

  • Capsuleer
  • “Path to Freedom” online novel
  • PVP Training
  • Corporation Management
  • POS Management
  • Carrier Training
  • An audio interview with the Scope
  • One Night of Roc in Rens live concert
  • One Night of Roc track mixing for Rock Band 2
  • A promotional video
  • A website for TO-416, the Toronto Area Pod Pilots group
  • February’s Rocalicious Calendar image

You all know I don’t write [OOC] if I can avoid it, but I really have no other way to ask for help. I’ve got too much going on, and simply not enough time nor ability to do it all!

I am in need help with the following please:

  • More damn questions for the Scope Interview – Use this form.
  • Someone with cinematic video capturing experience in Eve Online. Currently talking with TeaDaze, but the more the merrier. Really wanting to do something of CCP quality here. So if you know After Effects, have a high-end system for capturing ingame footage, and some free time to help me out, let me know.
  • Someone with extensive experience using WordPress.org and some free time to help me get the TO-416.org site up and running, the sooner the better as our first meeting is this coming Saturday Jan 16th.
  • Someone who can tell me how to either streamcast audio myself, or can get me in touch with EVE Radio directly to talk about organizing a concert.

If I can get those things covered off, then I can focus on the remaining items going on in my life currently, and continue to bring my best efforts to the EVE Online community.

Thanks!

Blog Banter #14 – WordPress ate my blog

Welcome to the fourteenth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed to crazykinux@gmail.com. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

The first banter of 2010 comes to us from the EVE Blog Father, CrazyKinux himself, who asks the following: As we begin another year in New Eden, ask yourselves “What Now?” What will I attempt next? What haven’t I done so far in EVE? Was it out fear, funds, or knowledge? Have I always wanted to start my own corporation, but have never dared doing so? Is there a fledging mercenary waiting to come out of its shell? Or maybe an Industrialist? What steps and objectives will I set myself to accomplish in order to reach my ultimate goal for this year? EVE is what you make of it. So, what is it going to be for you?

Well after writing a 2500 word post for this months’ blog banter, WordPress decided to log me out, and upon going back, my new post was empty and not auto-saved. I couldn’t be arsed into trying to rewrite it either, which is a shame, as it was actually a really good in character post with a nice dream sequence of large breasted Hellcats and Empress Sarum Jamyl I. Maleatu was in the post, as was PyjamaSam; even Lady Grey got mention. There was roundabout talk of the adventures of my business advisor and her new plans of setting up a high sec research lab, as well as the continually dropping financial status of my assets. Finally had some revelation while talking to myself in the mirror, realizing the decisions I had been struggling with recently were already made in my heart the moment the question arose. and once I quit rationalizing to myself I would take action.

That was nowhere near as entertaining as my original post. Damn you WordPress!

So what is Eve Online going to be for me this year? Very interesting; very interesting indeed. I truly hope you stay tuned.

Mr. Bubble

UNDISCLOSED 0.0 SYSTEM

It almost reminded me of my days in recon; sitting for hours in a Rapier, enjoying the isolation and peacefulness of space. There had been times it almost teetered over the edge to boredom, but right when you found yourself drifting off into woeful ignorance, action would inevitably occur, sending adrenaline coursing through your veins, alerting your senses and driving you into full wakefulness.

Such was this day, in a new experiment I had decided to try. The process itself wasn’t new; it was simply new to me. I had been learning about anchoring, warp bubbles, etc, etc, and decided I needed some field experience over theory.

In a move towards being a more aggressive pilot, I had fit a fully offensive Rifter, loaded a small warp bubble into the hold, and headed for nullsec.

Deploying the bubble at a strategic position between the only two gates in the system wasn’t difficult. Determining an optimal range wherein I could prevent my prey from getting to the gate when caught, while allowing me ample opportunity to retreat if needed was a more delicate decision.

Finally, with the decisions made, the bubble deployed, and all systems on my Rifter set to standby, I settled in to see what I could snare in my little trap.

For the first hour I could hardly look away I was so excited about springing my trap; I envisioned snagging a Punisher, or an Omen if I was lucky and it wasn’t Navy Issue. I knew that with an overheated alpha strike and a surge of acceleration, I could potentially destroy my enemy before they had a chance to implement defensive tactics. I just had to wait.

Three hours later, I was beginning to think the war against the Amarr was elsewhere in the universe, and pulled up my galactic map, having Aura filter for most recent wrecks and pod kills. I knew how Murphy’s Law worked, and fully expected  that the moment I began looking at my map was when the enemy would appear, and I would be caught offguard.

It didn’t happen, and I spent another forty minutes waiting with ever growing impatience, ready to call it quits, when the trap was sprung!

An Archon with a half squad of supporting Abaddons, Armageddons and Apocalypses were viciously yanked out of warp. Lovely.

I did the only practical thing a heroic Matar Colonel could do in such a situation: I ran like hell. Before the thought was even fully formed Aura had overheated the afterburner and I was straightlining for the gate thirty kilometers away.

By the time I hit twenty kilometers, I was targeted by the enemy, now the predator, with me the fleeing prey.

A dozen Templar drones quickly crossed the void, their engines screaming as they bore down on me. I pushed forward, willing my ship faster, knowing the gate was my only chance of surviving this encounter.

I didn’t make it.

My Rifter exploded, a shower of sparks and metal twisting uncontrollably through space. Aura took control of my pod, warping us away to a nearby moon while I regained my bearings.

I docked at a nearby station and purchased a shuttle, then proceeded back to Dal. Was I ashamed? No. I had learned something valuable, and that was always a good thing.

Would I try this again? Hells yes. I was positive it was a worthwhile technique and I would be fitting up another Rifter quickly and heading back out to nullsec.

Big Breasted Burritos

Now that I have your attention …

I don’t know about you, but I like breasts. Big, full, juicy and tender breasts; they’re good for your health! And I don’t like having to go through a lot of time consuming effort to get to my enjoyment of a nice full breast. I want it now. Call me lazy, but I believe things in life should be easy. If I want to grab something and put it in my mouth, I just don’t want to have to jump through hoops to do so.

Today’s recipe keeps that in mind.

BBQ Chicken & Black Bean Burritos

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3/4 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/3 cup bottled BBQ sauce (try to get something low carb)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can low sodium black beans, drained
  • 1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded reduced fat sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 (10 inch) low carb tortillas
  • 1/4 cup low fat sour cream

METHOD:

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken, onion, and garlic; cook 8 minutes until chicken is done, stirring constantly.
  2. Stir in BBQ sauce and beans. Sprinkle with cheese; cook 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Warm tortillas, according to package directions. Spoon about 1/2 cup chicken mixture down the center of each tortilla; top each with 1 tablespoon of sour cream, and roll up.

Up Close and Personal

I sat in the dark of my personal quarters onboard my Claymore, Tribal Glory. The ship had been drydocked for months, never seeing the action it was originally intended for. A thick layer dust covered the outer hull, and as I had walked through the hallways inside, the echoing of my boots on the metal flooring reminded me of how lonely the life of a Capsuleer could be sometimes, usually by choice.

I had planned on being a great leader when I bought this ship. I had the ambition to become a fleet commander of great reknown, a hero in the war; and perhaps to some degree I had achieved that, in the past.

It wasn’t melancholy or self-pity, there was no emo need in my thoughts. Rather, just an objective analysis of my path thus far in the hopes of gleaming some insight into what was in store for me next. I wasn’t one to ride the wave of fate; but if you’ve been reading these memoires, history has already told you that.

If anything, I was sitting alone in the dark, reflecting on life out of pure vanity. In my hand I held the release form for the Scope news broadcast, one of New Eden’s most popular and widespread news network. They wanted to do a “Up Close and Personal” segment featuring me. I had seen these bits in passing before, they always ended up embarassing the subject in some way or another.

I wondered what questions they would ask? How would I respond? Would I keep my cool or lose my temper? Was it going to actually be about my personal life, or simply a thinly veiled attempt at a biased agenda? Were they trying to help me rebuild my tarnished reputation or looking to further put the screws to me about murder and slavery?

I sighed deeply, feeling the stale air of the ship enter my lungs. I coughed, feeling lightheaded.

What the hell. I digitally signed the form, sending it back to the correspondent.

This is going to be interesting to say the least, I thought to myself.

Want to help me make this interview interesting? Ask me any “in-character” question you want by filling out the form located HERE. It can be about the war, my music, working out, my views on politics, my relationships with the opposite sex, piracy, recipes, favourite ships and fits, market trading for profit, or whatever the heck you want. While I may not answer every question, the more questions I have to choose from the better.

Healthy Choices

I had the “privilege” this morning of addressing the Republic Civilian Defence Force, or CDF for short. Given my rank and highly public profile, in addition to my well known position on maintaining my clone’s physique manually, I was a natural choice. I accepted my duty without question, and made my way to the surface of Pator III.

The Republic had decided to step up voluntary enlistment before initiating a mandatory draft in an effort to continue the war effort against the Amarr. Given their inability to provide funding for the losses of the many capsuleers fighting on their behalf, the Senate had voted almost unanimously to enlist the aid of the common people. While I personally believed the mantle should fall to every healthy Matari to fight for their freedom, I was also pragmatic and understood that not all were equipped mentally or physically for the hardships of the soldier’s life.

In my mind’s eye, I had an ideal vision of what the Brutor of old looked like: physically dominating, near perfect specimens of strength and power. We were, and still are, a fiercely tribal people, etching out a hard existence in a universe seemingly indifferent to the injustices we suffered daily at the hands of the Amarr. Every step forward was hard earned, and as our technology grew, so did our appetite for physical perfection. That was my ideal vision.

Instead, what was evidenced before me by the men and women of the CDF was one of complacency and laziness. Our ancestors would’ve been ashamed at the soft assortment of flesh candies seated before me. Not a one would survive the capsuleer training program, and it made me question not only the decision to enlist these couch potato, weekend warriors, but also the standards by which these “soldiers” were held subject to.

I gave my speech, motivating them to yells, whoops and cheers, taking my leave as soon as possible; the smell of fat and sweat inducing a feeling of claustrophobia in me; something a pod jockey never experienced.

On the shuttle back to Dal, I had plenty of time to think about a great many things; the direction of my life, the war effort, Myxnee, but the foremost thought in my mind was how far we had fallen as a people from the heights we once achieved. Sure, we had advanced as a society and were one of the strongest of the Empires in New Eden, but at what cost? If the CDF was indicative of the general populace, we had become soft. Should the frontlines fail, the Amarr would find no resistance to enslavement of our people. The cynical side of me wondered if they would even want what they would find, but of course they would, a body was a body, and those that couldn’t do, would die.

I knew many capsuleers who rarely left their pods, and even fewer that engaged in regular physical activity. We relied on our wills and minds so completely in our roles that we often neglected our own health and well being.

That had to stop.

It’s a new year and the time for excuses had ended. It’s time to get in shape, and we’re going to do this together. Regardless of your current level of physical health, we’re going to start doing something, anything, to improve ourselves.

NOTE: PLEASE CONSULT WITH A PHYSICIAN BEFORE ENGAGING IN ANY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN INJURY OR ILLNESS FOR WHICH I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.

STEP 1: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

Using the calculator HERE, find out your BMR, or the number of calories per day you should be consuming to promote good physical health. Be honest with yourself. At the end of the day, you’re going to be your own worst critic.

STEP 2: Body Strength

If you have an iTouch/iPhone, download the ONE HUNDRED PUSHUPS application. Well formed pushups will work the following muscle groups:

MAJOR:

  • chest
  • shoulders
  • trapezius
  • biceps
  • triceps
  • abdominal core

MINOR:

  • forearm
  • thighs
  • quadriceps
  • calves
  • lower back

As you can see, pushups are a very effective strength building exercise for both men and women. No “woman pushups” in this program.

If you don’t have the ability to download this app, you can substitute the following routine 3x per week, though it will not be as effective:

  • 11 pushups
  • 60 seconds rest
  • 15 pushups
  • 60 seconds rest
  • 9 pushups
  • 60 seconds rest
  • 9 pushups
  • 60 seconds rest
  • 13 (minimum, but do as many as you can to fail)

STEP 2: Cardiovascular

Again, if you have iTouch/iPhone, the COUCH TO 5K app is incredible. It gives audio cues for when you should switch from walk/jog/run, and is a very good, progressive program for improving your cardiovascular health while increasing core strength and losing weight. If you don’t have an iTouch/iPhone, you can still follow along on this program HERE.

STEP 3: Healthy Eating

It might seem daunting to buy healthy groceries, and you may have even heard that eating healthy is far more expensive than eating junk. Follow these guidelines for shopping, and you will be surprised at how well your body responds:

  • When buying bread and pasta check the list of ingredients. Look for the words “Whole Grain” as the first ingredient. If you see “wheat flour” or “enriched flour” as one of the first couple of ingredients, then this is mostly refined white bread with some whole grains added.
  • Buy lean meat, fish (especially oily fish like salmon) and poultry. Try to limit deli meats, hot dogs, bacon and other processed meats due to high levels of nitrates.
  • Stop buying soda or fruit juice that is mostly sugar water and empty calories! Buy unsweet tea or tea bags to make tea yourself and keep in your refrigerator. If you must buy juice, be sure it is 100% juice and limit your intake to one glass a day.
  • Stop buying junk food at the store like chips or soda. It will save room in your grocery budget for healthier foods.
  • Learn to read food labels. Avoid partially hydrogenated oils (trans fat), bleached flour, enriched flour, and high fructose corn syrup by checking the ingredients on packages.
  • Avoid pre-packaged meals that contain high levels of sodium, fat and calories. Try broiling fish and steaming fresh broccoli instead!
  • Try to spend half your budget each week on fruits and veggies and spend the other half on whole grains, dairy and lean meat. Start in the produce department first and work your way around the outside edges of the store. Most processed and unhealthy foods are kept in the center aisle. Limit what you buy there!
  • Stock up on lean meat, fish and poultry when it is on sale and freeze it for future use.
  • Purchase berries, peaches, mangos and other fruits when they are on sale and freeze in individual baggies for use later in smoothies or on whole grain waffles.
  • YES you can use coupons and still have a healthy grocery list! It takes some work to pull your list together each week, but stores offer great coupons on things like frozen vegetables, whole grain pasta and whole grain waffles. But, don’t get tricked into buying processed foods just because you have a coupon. Just because a bag of candy is $0.50, doesn’t mean it needs to be in your cart!

With a little effort and some planning you can have a healthy grocery list and still be on a budget.

STEP 4: Portion Control

So you’re exercising, you’re eating healthy, but you’re still not seeing the results you want? Chances are, you’re eating too much! Might make sense once you hear it, but even when eating healthy, you can still overdo it.

TO LOSE WEIGHT ALWAYS ENSURE THE CALORIES YOU EXPEND ARE GREATER THAN THE CALORIES YOU CONSUME.

Four general rules of thumb:

  1. A single portion of meat should be no bigger than the palm of your hand.
  2. A single serving of veggies, rice, pasta, etc, should never exceed 1 cup.
  3. Eat every 4 hours without fail (not including sleep time).
  4. Hydrate! You should consume at least 3 litres of water per day, especially when engaging in regular physical activity.

STEP 5: Calories

As I said, always expend more than you consume. If you have an iTouch/iPhone, one of the best apps for tracking your daily calorie count is the Calorie Tracker by Live Strong.com. With a full online database of foods and exercises, you’ll be sorely pressed to not find what you need with this app. If you don’t have an iTouch/iPhone, their WEBSITE offers a great online program as well.

STEP 6: NO EXCUSES

You can lie to me, you can lie to friends, but despite what you think, you can’t lie to yourself. Healthy living promotes overall wellness emotionally, mentally, sexually and physically. The first step to better self-image is setting goals for yourself, getting up off your ass to do something about it, then feeling good at the accomplishment. This is one of those things in life where it’s ok to be selfish. Give this to yourself. You deserve it.

That’s it for today. I look forward to seeing how many of you are willing to pledge yourselves to better health in the comments section below. If you do, I promise you I will be with you every step of the way, and make myself available for questions and guidance when possible.
